For instance, our mfps surge protector shuts down the machine if it breaks threshold (125-115v). My office has some unique power issues now and then. Box has a few extra nifty things we can make use of if people would log in to the web interface, but nobody does, so again, the uphill battle thing. I actually moved to MediaFire personally, and chose Box for work. I used to use Dropbox but didn't like things like no ability to have others upload to me, how someone else sharing something with me used up my own space, and a few other things.

As such, I just want a free setup to first wet the appetite for cloud sync, and maybe some day upgrade to individual user accounts. In any case, it's a small team of about 9 people (plus all various tablets, laptops, phones and home computers). Makes me look like an idiot for one, and makes cloud feel like a worse solution than stacks of paper and file cabinets! It's hard enough just getting them to see the benefit of using it, especially when it's terribly unreliable and leads to sync issues and bad data. It's an uphill battle to approve of using even a free service all with the same user account, let alone make all employees get their own accounts, let alone buy user accounts for everybody. Just the other day we had one of these Box sync issues and she threatened to go back to paper. Not that I'm a cheapskate, but the boss is old school, they barely even like anything "cloud" and I had to fight just to get Box installed.

Dropbox has the least free space of just about any service out there, and we're at about 8.5GB right now.

Right now everybody just connects to the same Box (free) user. I have searched around Google but this doesn't seem to be a common issue, so I guess we are "special" then! Unless of course someone figures out why it just shuts off on its own. This mysterious silent dying thing is driving us mad, and now I have to research alternate tools due to the unreliability. Let me just say, if you have a file sync tool that is claiming to be for the enterprise, for businesses to work on, then you darn well better make the sync tool as robust as possible, monitoring itself, keeping itself running and open, and notifying people the micro-second there is some issue. I hope you understand how incredibly frustrating it is to rely on a file sync tool that simply doesn't work 50% of the time, the boss is going to lose it if we have to deal with out of sync, and duplicate file issues again because somebody's tool just shut down randomly without warning.Īny idea why a program would just die like this? I can understand programs crashing, but I can't understand them simply stopping and going away without a whisper. And I can't repeat the issue, we just sort of wait in dread until the next time we discover files out of sync and have to figure out whose computer has the dead Box Sync and restart the app. There seems to be no way for me to troubleshoot this. Sometimes I'm even able to right-click the icon and choose "Preferences" but it then goes away at that point and disappears. Most of the time the crash is mysterious because you can still see the Box icon in the System Tray, but if I hover the cursor over the icon, it disappears. There isn't even anything recorded in the Windows error logs. There is no crash message, no error message or warning. But completely randomly and without warning, it simply dies and stops working.

I've reported this issue to Box but thought I'd bounce it here too.īasically, in order for our files to sync, the program has to be running, duh. We use Box Sync and all our workstations are Windows 7.
